Katihar boy Shubham Kumar has made his district as well as his state proud by topping the most prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, 2020. B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Bombay, this exam was Subham's third attempt. In 2019, he had secured 268th rank.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar congratulated Shubham Kumar for his success and said that he has made not only his home district but entire Bihar proud. In 1987, Aamir Subhani, a resident of Siwan, who is currently the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Bihar, topped the examination.

Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishore Prasad, who hails from Katihar, spoke to Shubham's parents and expressed his desire to attend the ceremony to honor Shubham in their village Kumhari.

Topper Shubham has thanked all his well wishers and villagers for their well wishes in a tweet.

Later he went to Chinmaya Vidyalaya Bokaro in Jharkhand and studied 12th in 2014. He passed IIT with 219th rank and joined IIT Bombay and passed in B.Tech.

He chose Anthropology as his optional subject in UPSC exam.

Shubham's father, who works in Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank said, "His aim was to clear IAS from the very beginning and hence he never gave up and continued his preparation even after 290th rank and today he has made us all proud. has done." Meanwhile, Vidya Vihar School President Ramesh Mishra congratulated Shubham for his success and said that the school would felicitate his student.

Speaking to PTI, Shubham said that his dream of becoming an IAS officer and serving the underprivileged has come true. The 24-year-old Kumar, who topped the civil services exam in his third attempt, said, "Development of villages, employment generation and poverty alleviation in the country's rural areas will be his focus areas."

After passing the Civil Services Examination 2019, he got selected in the Indian Defense Accounts Service (IDAS). Kumar could not make it to the 2018 exam in his first attempt.

Hailing from Katihar, Bihar, Kumar is currently undergoing training at the National Academy of Defense Financial Management (NADFM), Pune.

Kumar said that he got a lot of support from his father and the academy, especially its director, in his preparation for the exam.

The younger of two siblings, her elder sister works as a scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC). Kumar said, “My father used to motivate me a lot and help me maintain a positive attitude which helped me clear the exams.” He said that his father works as a bank manager in Bihar.
