On this day, awareness is spread among the people of the whole world that we are not enemies of each other. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to promote peace among the countries of the world and to end mutual disputes.

The day was started by the United Nations (UN) to maintain peace between many countries around the world, to end international wars and to promote brotherhood between countries. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) first announced its celebration in 1981. After which it continued to be celebrated every year. On this day, on the occasion of International Day of Peace, from the United Nations Organization to many other organizations organize many types of programs.

The United Nations started celebrating International Day of Peace all over the world in 1981. After which it was celebrated for the first time on the third Tuesday of September in the year 1982. After which, from 1982 to 2001, International Day of Peace was celebrated on the third Tuesday of September. At the same time, the United Nations had announced to celebrate it on 21 September from the year 2002. Since then, International Day of Peace is being celebrated every year on 21st September.
